Under the Canopy of Winter

We have a canopy of trees on the back side of the property that even in freezing weather still finds a way to bring forth life when the sun shines.  A nice place to walk and take some pictures of God's wonders.

Upcycled Pendants

Jumping around the upcycled items and shops on etsy this morning and found the lovely upcycled pendants from Retro Chalet Studio at http://retrochaletstudio.etsy.com/. They are made with vintage pictures and mounted to old casino chips.  Great looking pendants and these are the three I love most.   Great recycling art jewelry.

Handmade Albiflorum

Just added these handmade flowers called (natural albiflorum) to my etsy shop  http://southerntouches.etsy.com/.
Made from unbleached vintage crochet thread I received for Christmas.  Stems are bleached branches.

I am working on white felted ball stems at this time and will list a little later.

Warehouse Treasure Hunting

The Florida Sheriff's Boys Ranch Opportunity Warehouse in North Florida is one of the biggest treasure hunting stores to visit. All money goes straight to the Boys Ranch and there are no taxes on any merchandise at this place.  You can find jewelry,tools,kitchen supplies,clothes,formals,shoes and even an occasional car,truck or boat.

I try to spend at least a couple of hours here every Friday, my day off, to hunt and dig if I have to.

Had a good shopping trip this weekend for vintage treasure.  Set of six from the 60's  Fading gold swirls or coma strokes as they are called.

Vintage Crosstitch

Two beautiful vintage pieces of crosstitch I just added to my shop http://www.dogwoodflowerdesigns.etsy.com/.  These are in great shape and are ready to frame for any vintage home or as a gift.     One is a Love Poem and the other a Faith Poem.

Passionate about Dogwood Blooms

I started collecting items with dogwood blooms on them some years ago and have received many items from my girls on special occasions.  Here are some I found just surfing around the web.  I really like it when I can find something vintage with dogwood blooms, pink or white blooms doesn't matter which.  

Throw a Ways Saved

Here is my hand at upcycling vintage satin ball ornaments that could have easily been thrown away.  I cut off all ragged satin parts and dug into my vintage stash of sequins,ribbons,acrylics and glass beads to redo the sad looking throw a ways. 

My daughter from http://labonnefemme1.blogspot.com/. inspired me to  think vintage Christmas.  Still scowering yard sales and thrift stores for more.   Don't you just love the sparkle of these saved beauties?

Old,Vintage,and Antique

I call this picture: Old,vintage and Antique.  A black and white photo of me and my sister at 5 and 4 years old.  The frame is made from 100 year old cypress unfinished wood.  Old nail holes still on back of frame.
They all seem to go together well I think.

Yarn Leftovers enters beautiful

Oh how the smallest of things we get rid of can be turned into home decor and inexpensive decorations or gifts for that matter.   Lovers of vintage seem to bring out the best talents during the Christmas Season as should be especially if giving from the heart and of your talents.

The top one is from a starbucks, second is re-nest.com,and the fourth from myhouseof giggles.

The others I chose from other sources and wanted to make for myself and as gifts.

Love the idea of someone using their talents instead of just purchasing something for me. I am also joyful to say that my two daughters have the same feelings.

Vintage handmade wreath

This one turned out nicely I think.  A vintage silk tie,vintage crochet and new crochet circles with glass button.  For the Holidays or any other day of the year.  Simple and striking for vintage lovers.

Holiday Yarn Fun

The wreath at the top is my version of the wreath shown in Better Homes and Gardens this month. I placed it over my fireplace for this Christmas Season.

The shops at etsy are great and I go searching them everyday. Found theses wonderful pots to make bulbs really pop in bloom.

Some of my favorite things to do in the fall and winter. Forcing bulbs are easy if you stick them in the frig in a paper bag for about a month. Now is the time to do so if you want them at Christmas or later.
